There is great need for versatile and smart support materials. As many industrial and biologic reactions take place in water (green chemistry), systems that operates in water and mechanically durable, flexible with controllable porosity, and sensitive to the environments factors (pH, temperature, magnetic field) are suitable for multitasks missions e.g., metal nanoparticle preparation and catalysis. Hence, hydrogels known as smart materials can be used for these purposes.The hydrogels from 2-acrylamido 2-methyl-1-propane sulfonic acid (AMPS), 2-acrylamidoglyconic acid (2-AAGA), 4-vinyl pyridine, N-vinyl imidazole, vinyl sulfonic acid (VSA) and sullfopropylmetharylate (SPM) that can absorb metal ions such as Co, Ni, Rh, Ru ve Pt from aqueous media were used in the preparation of homo or copolymeric hydrogels and their organic-inorganic composites with tetraethoxy silane (TEOS), tertamethoxysilane (TMOS) ve vinyltriethoxysilane (VTEOS), or vinyltrimethoxyilane (VTMOS) as hydrogel-silika composites. The prepared hydrogel and their silica composites were used as template in Cu, Ag, Co, Ni, Fe etc, and magnetic ferrite particle preparation. The prepared hydrogel metal composites were used as a smart catalyst system with controllable porosity for the production of hydrogen in the hydrolysis of different hydrites such as NaBH4 is a novel concept and a smart approach.
