The Average Consumer will become far more involved, and will demand services that enable them to monitor and control their CO2 footprint. Participation in Demand Response programs must be provided as a service, whereby the educated consumer will endorse it.
Services are the key for future markets. It’s vital that the consumers are presented with complete solutions to their challenges on keeping their CO2 footprint down. Services already implemented are:
- Online monitoring of energy consumption with an update interval of 1 minute
- Monitoring of consumption to identify potential leaks, and preventive maintenance of the clients equipment
- Integration of flexible energy prices, tariffs can be defined for groups of customers
- Demand Response with support for OpenADR
- Integration with online grid balancing systems
- Energy efficiency project management tools fully integrated
- Frequency controlled DR support
GridManager’s technology is: An open platform on which new integrated services can be developed and deployed rapidly. It comprises of all aspects needed:
- Cost effective sub meters
- Internet based communication infrastructure
- Database infrastructure
- Messaging backbone for online integration with Demand response programs
- Web portal middleware
The solution initially developed on the platform is focused on Industrial and Commercial consumers. It’s flexible.
GridManager is being deployed with 10 selected test customers in Q1 and Q2 2010. The clients have been carefully selected so 10 different types and industries are represented.

GridManager has been: Granted and IBM Business partner ship. The system infrastructure has been developed with the support of IBM, and is guaranteed by IBM to be scalable to their standards.
GridManager is an open platform: Developed on the basis of standard IBM middleware, and targeted for certification in accordance with the IBM framework for the Energy Industry (SAFE).
SAFE Compliance: Supports the Grid Manager Vision to become a service- and technology provider, enabling Utilities to offer a vast range of services to consumers GridManager is: a start-up company that has been working on this solution for two years now. It’s privately held, and formed as a PLC with a professional board of directors.
The project has been selected as the technology platform for a 3 year project conducted by the national Technical Institute of Denmark. Focus in this verification project is to verify the potential of a GridManager technology, and to clarify the obstacles of getting it introduced.
The system is linked up to the Scandinavian Energy trading system. This enables the users of the system to keep track of the fluctuation on prices. Subsequently the system also provides tools for the users to manage their installation so that demand Response is straightforward.
