AC Research Lab (ACRL) is a private corporation in the energy efficiency business. Its vision is to develop innovative cooling products that provide superior performance at a lower cost and with less energy consumption. The company is a Cleantech Open winner in 2008 and an Energy Star Partner.
ACRL’s first product, HelioMistTM, is an aftermarket device that improves air conditioner (AC) efficiency as much as 50% by cooling the condenser with an advanced evaporative pre-cooling technology. The HelioMistTM has been test evaluated at PG&E Technical and Ecological Services Lab, and field demonstrated in alpha and beta pilot trials with Redding Electric Utility in California. The HelioMistTM reduces peak load power for utilities, kilo-Watt-hours for consumers, and greenhouse gas for the planet.
The HelioMistTM improves the AC cooling capacity and enhances the consumers’ comfort on hot days. It is safe, easy to install, and potentially extending the AC life. Its software and sensors process real time data and allow it to operate in its most effective mode to maximize reliability and minimize water usage.
Utilities build out sufficient capacity, often in the form of infrequently used “peaker” power plants, or adopt other expensive alternatives to support projected energy demand that spikes during intense air conditioning use during heat waves. With much lower cost and smaller carbon footprint, ACRL’s technology provides dynamically increasing efficiency gains as temperature increases, and simply offsets the demand placed on utility grids when demand is greatest.
