In 2009, CTSI with support from the US Department of Energy launched the cleanTest program to address a critical challenge faced by organizations in the clean tech space: finding the right test partners. The first program in the series, the Utility Technology Challenge, was piloted in 2009-2010. Working with utilities, municipalities, and large integrators, CTSI helped identify leading commercial-ready technology solutions, and matched those solutions to a global community of clean technology solution providers. Free copies of the 2010 Utility Solutions Report are available to qualified organizations.

Applications for the 2011 Utility Technology Challenge closed on February 18, and the semifinalists were announced!

The long-term goal of the cleanTest program is to facilitate testing and pilot project partnerships that will enable more rapid growth of clean technology companies and increase the speed of clean technology adoption of sustainable technologies; driving more jobs and securing safer, greener, and more reliable energy and water supplies.

The cleanTest platform has four primary components:

  1. Identification of key technology needs by technology identification sponsors/partners.
  2. Collection and categorization of technology solutions that match needs of sponsors/partners.
  3. Showcase of top technologies/products to give broad market visibility to best-in-class solutions.
  4. Match technology solutions to testing/pilot partnership opportunities producing validated data and early-customer adoption opportunities.
