| Abstract: | The ‘Clean Sky’ Joint Technology Initiative (JTI, cleansky.eu) is an innovative European program aiming at massively lower impacts of air transport on the environment. The objective of the Green Regional Aircraft sub-project is to validate and demonstrate the technologies best fitting the pollution and noise reduction goals set for the regional aircraft that will enter the market in the 2020s. After giving a brief introduction to Clean Sky, the paper will report preliminary results of the innovative technologies under development towards low weight and low noise configurations, mainly innovative concepts for active flow and load control offered by Fraunhofer Germany. The new technologies applied will substantially increase the high lift capabilities of the wing during takeoff and landing combined with a massive decrease in annoyance due to noise at the same time. |
