Combining solution processed and vacuum deposited layers in small molecule organic solar cell

Abstract:In this work the characteristics and mechanisms remarkably affecting efficiency in vacuum deposited small molecule solar cells using pentacene, C60, and BCP and the combination of solution processed and vacuum deposited layers like a P3HT layer will be discussed. It was found that high EQE values in the red part of the spectrum are attributed to the large exciton diffusion length of the pentacene thin film (Figure 1) and the varied thickness of the layers will be critical to the EQE (Figure 2). In vacuum deposited small molecule solar cells, factors such as layer material, interface characteristics, surface morphology, and charge recombination dynamics, will be discussed with a view to potential technological applications.
