Abstract:	As we learn more about the hundreds of contaminants common in water, the decline of our water infrastructure, and the potentially harmful effects of chemical treatments, it is not surprising that consumers are turning to bottled water. The problem is particularly acute in developing countries where there may be no water treatment or distribution infrastructure in many areas. Unfortunately, many of the technologies available today for water treatment have significant drawbacks (e.g., high pressure requirements, high electricity demands, harmful chemicals, etc.). Seldon’s carbon nanotube based filtration material (Nanomesh™) removes bacteria, viruses, spores, cysts, total organic carbons and inorganic contaminants from water via a passive process. The pressure drop across the filter is much less than what is typically seen in nanofiltration and reverse osmosis systems and is capable of working for well over 1,000 gallons of influent. Seldon’s manufacturing process is water based and very few chemicals are used. Additionally, since Seldon’s filtration media is completely passive, no electricity or chemical reaction is necessary to clean the water. While power is required to push water through the media, the material is permeable enough that human generated power is sufficient to create a significant amount of clean water.
