Abstract:Supercapacitance is an increasingly growing area of interest for a number of electric, and electronic applications. Storing energy that is readily recovered can extend the life or improve the efficiency of chemical batteries, rapid-pulse batteries rechargers, fuel cells, electric motors, turbines, computers and many other applications. Inasmuch, Reticle Carbon, an inexpensive, high surface area carbon, may lead to a resurgence of interest in this area. Reticle Carbon is a unique, consolidated material that has relatively high electrical conductivities (0.04-0.130 -cm), demonstrated high surface areas (1250-1950 m2/g), and the highest reported specific capacitance (200-400 F/g). It is produced by consolidating any granular activated carbon selected for its properties. The manufacturing process is single-stage in which parameters can be varied to tailor the material properties to make the perfect supercapacitor material. This paper shows the wide range of properties that the material possesses with the underlying theory of the ability to store energy in the massive available surface area of the material. We have demonstrated the energy storage and recuperation capability of the material in leveling the electric load of a small electric motor.
