Abstract:In the framework of the project ACI NPD-37 “NSC-Env” supported by the French Ministry of Research and New Technologies, a kind of nanostructured carbon based composite materials was developed in order to propose new efficient carriers for air pollutant sampling, namely – for volatile organic compounds (VOC). The comparison was carried out between these new adsorbents and one of widely spread commercial porous material for VOC sampling (Tenax-TA). Hydrophobic capacities, crystalline properties and high thermal resistance have been conferred to the new adsorbents. The results lead to another application way for the carbon nanostructures due to their high adsorption capacities, thermal resistance and particular hydrophobic properties, namely as efficient regenerable carriers for gas sampling in humid atmospheres. Comparison of VOC adsorption capacities prove that the carbon nanostructures can be strong adsorbents and present greater capacities than Tenax TA.
