Abstract:High performance iPP based nanocomposites filled with innovative calcium carbonate nanoparticles were prepared by melt mixing. Peculiarities of the nanoparticles were the high specific surface area, the elongated shape (aragonite), and the surface modifiers (polypropylene-maleic anhydride graft copolymer, and fatty acids).
The influence of the nanoparticles nature and content on the morphological, mechanical, and barrier properties of the nanocomposites was evaluated. Higher improvements of the barrier properties were obtained with calcium carbonate nanoparticles coated with fatty acids.
