UW invested $77 Million into the new Molecular Engineering & Sciences Institute

The main focus areas for the Institute will focus on developing new materials and proteins for clean energy and biotechnology applications.  The Institute building is also a green building, and includes a living roof with plantings and gels in the walls to help moderate the building’s temperature.  In addition to conducting research at the molecular level, UW and the Institute are part of a consortium funded by the National Institutes of Health and will also study potential safety and toxicology issues associated with the handling of molecular materials.
