TechConnect Innovation Tracking: Solar Fuel Corporation, an Asia Pacific Clean Energy Summit participant, Honolulu, HI, 2012

Solar Fuel Corporation uses a proprietary low pressure/high temperature thermochemical proprietary process and proprietary reactor to convert solar energy, water and CO2 into fuel (hydrogen OR syngas).  According to the company, Solar Fuel’s proprietary process has a flexible size able to provide mobility, accommodate varying locations, zero carbon footprint, and can produce cost competitive fuel.

The company’s business model is focused on building strategic research and business partnerships; current partnerships include relationships with Sandia National Laboratories and the University of Florida.  Solar Fuel is also in talks with several F500 companies in the energy space.

At the 2012 Asia Pacific Clean Energy Summit & Expo (APCESE) in Honolulu, HI, Kevin Bowles, Co-Founder, Chairman and CEO of Solar Fuel Corporation, announced his company is on track to meet its next milestone: a 10kw scale prototype by Q1 2013.

Since being invited to present in the Defense Energy Technology Challenge program at APCESE in August, Mr. Bowles tells TechConnect, “We developed a white paper for a potential strategic business partner based in Hawaii, and we are also in discussions with executives in Europe and Japan.”  Mr. Bowles notes, “We felt the (APCESE) conference and the state of Hawaii were a great anchor for us to have presence and exposure in the Pacific Rim region. “

In addition to private capital and partnerships, the company has received $3 Million US from ARPA-E, and a $35,000 commercialization grant from the University of Florida.
