Virach Sornlertlamvanich received his D.Eng. degree from Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1998. He worked for NEC Corporation as a sub-project leader in Thai language processing group of the Multi-lingual Machine Translation Project during 1988-1992. The system became the first successful large-scaled multilingual machine translation for the translation among Chinese, Indonesian, Japanese, Malay, and Thai. He later set up the Linguistics and Knowledge Science Laboratory (LINKS) in NECTEC to bring up the research on Natural Language Processing (NLP) in Thailand in 1992. He was esteemed \"The Researcher of the Year 2001\" by the Nation Newspaper (Thailand), and conclusively awarded by the National Research Council of Thailand as “The Most Outstanding Researcher of the Year” in Information Technology and Communication Arts in 2003. He started the Digitized Thailand project in 2009 aiming at establishing a service platform for digital contents and applications to accomplish the creative industry strategy.
