Ms. Tomoyo Nonaka is Chair and Founder of GAIA Initiative, formed in 2007 as a non-profit organization, advocates a shift in the core values of society and undertakes various forms of educational activities and supports programs for corporations. Ms. Nonaka formerly served as Chair and Chief Executive Officer of Sanyo Electric Co. Ltd. She currently serves as a Member of the Advisory Committee of Mitsui Fudosan Co. Ltd., is a Member of several government panels. Ms. Nonaka is a visiting scholar at the East West Center - University of Hawaii and is a visiting researcher for the International Institute for Okinawan Studies at the University of the Ryukyus, Ms. Nonaka examines sustainable developments of Ryukyu Islands, especially Kume- island and educating the next generation, as surrounding natural and social environments constantly change. In the 80’s and 90’s she was a journalist and anchor businesswoman for NHK, Japan's national television network. Ms. Nonaka attended Sophia University in Japan and Central Missouri State University in the U.S.A.
