Marc Matsuura is currently the Director of Systems Integration at the Hawaiian Electric Company. His primary responsibilities include: Leading company-wide and corporate-wide studies and other analytical work to effectively integrate new variable renewable generators in a reliable, safe, and affordable manner; Leading corporate-wide studies to consider the interconnection of island grids through an inter-island transmission network; Bridging various planning studies and demonstrations of advanced grid technologies into the planning and operations of the three utilities; Leading cross functional teams in the development and continued evaluation of Reliability Standards for electric systems, including the coordination of planning studies, regulatory proceedings, and operating practices and policies.
The Hawaiian Electric family of utilities own and manage the power systems (including generation, transmission, and distribution) on the islands of Oahu, Maui, Molokai, Lanai, and Hawaii. Marc has been with the Hawaiian Electric Company for 21 years and has also held positions in the areas of T&D Engineering, T&D Standards and Technical Services, System Operations, Transmission Planning, and Smart Grid. Marc is a licensed professional engineer in Hawaii and holds a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering and an M.B.A. degree from the University of Hawaii.
