The development of Honolulu Sea Water Air Conditioning’s first commercial SWAC plant provides researchers at the University of Hawaii a unique opportunity to study the effects of this technology on the local ocean ecosystem. We will descibe our research strategy for monitoring key biogeochemical variables, present the early results of monitoring, and discuss potential impacts of SWAC operation on Mamala Bay, Hawaii.
