Dr. Gary Jackson, Fulbright Nexus alumnus, is the Executive Director of the Caribbean Electric Utility Services Corporation and External Graduate Research Supervisor at the University of the West Indies, Mona, Jamaica.
Dr. Jackson is a recipient of the 2011-2012 Fulbright Nexus Scholarship where he studied the development of a community small hydropower distributed generation in Jamaica. He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, and MSc in Project Management, both from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom. He also holds a BSc in Mechanical Engineering, from the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago. He held several notable positions including: General Manager of Wigton Windfarm Limited, Jamaica, Manager at the Centre of Excellence for Renewable Energy, a Division of The Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica, and Lecturer on Integrating Alternative Energy, at the University of the West Indies, Mona.
Dr. Jackson has amassed extensive management, technical and industry knowledge and experience from serving in both the commercial and academic aspects of the energy industry. As such, he is a firm believer in the need for greater synergies between academia and the electric utility businesses. He has said that “such synergies can allow the Caribbean people to move away from the wholesale importation of vanilla technologies to models customised to suit the needs of the region.” He is an advocate of education and resource integration, as his belief is knowledge, creativity and collaboration will evoke solution driven processes. He is a Registered Engineer in Jamaica and an associate member of the Jamaica Institution of Engineers and Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
