The Hawaii Island Economic Development Board (HIEDB) is a private, 501(c) (3) not-for-profit corporation established in 1984 with a focus on strengthening and diversifying Hawaii Island’s economy. Target areas include agriculture, education, energy, health and wellness, informatics, science and technology, workforce development, and the visitor industry. HIEDB has established strong partnerships with public and private sector entities at local, State, National and International levels. These collaborations provide the base for work with and support of for example and not limited to, Hawaii Island’s world renowned astronomy and the renewable energy industries. At present in excess of 40% of Hawaii Island’s energy is produced by renewable sources and HIEDB’s annual Hawaii Island Renewable Energy Solutions Summit provides opportunity for outreach, education, and establishment of new collaborations within the industry.
