Governor George Ariyoshi was born and raised on Oahu. An attorney by profession, he served as President of the Hawaii Bar Association in 1969. He devoted 32 years to active public service in Territorial and State Legislature, as Lt. Governor and then for 3+ terms as Governor of Hawaii.

During his Governorship, he founded and chaired the Pacific Basin Development Council and chaired two Western Governor's Association groups.

In transitioning himself from politician to citizen, he has served as Chairman of the East-West Center and the Pacific International Center for High Technology Research (PICHTR), as the American Advisor to the Japan-U.S. Space Technology, Science and Application Program (JUSTSAP), and sat on the Board of the National Public Broadcasting System (PBS).

He was appointed to serve on the Advisory Council on Trade Policy & Negotiation by President Clinton and by Japan as Advisory Board member of the Japan Foundation Center for Global Policies.

He received the highest Japanese government decoration, the Grand Cordon of the Sacred Treasure, 1st Class, Honorary Doctorates from six universities, the Japanese American Citizens Leagues Award of the Japanese American of the Biennium, 1984.

He has written and spoken extensively on his major concerns about Hawaii and its future. He is now a business consultant, serving as Chairman of two companies that he co-founded, Convergence CT, Inc. and Cellular Bioengineeing, Inc. and sitting on the Board of several other technology companies.
