City & County of Honolulu

Ann Chung is the Director of the Office of Economic Development for the City and County of Honolulu, the nation’s 10th largest municipality which drives over 80 percent of the total economy of the State of Hawaii.

With over 20 years in the private sector, she brings valuable business experience to the City’s efforts to grow the economy and improve the quality of life for Honolulu’s businesses and residents.

A native of Hawaii, Ms. Chung returned home in 1999 to lead the Hawaii Technology Trade Association (HTTA) as its executive director. HTTA, now known as the Hawaii Science & Technology Council, was the state’s first private-sector technology trade organization and one of the key catalysts for the industry’s recent growth. As HTTA’s director and chief lobbyist for eight years, Ms. Chung was widely regarded for her dynamic leadership and invaluable contributions.

Prior to this, Ms. Chung was the Director of Marketing for Thinque Systems, a leading provider of sales force automation software later acquired by MEI. Previous management and marketing experience include Ogilvy & Mather, Bozell, Toshiba Computer Systems, Pacific Bell, IBM, Microsoft, and American Express Worldwide, as well as numerous travel-related businesses.

Ms. Chung graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of California at Berkeley with dual degrees in legal studies and psychology. She is a Pacific Century Fellow alumna, two-time recipient of the Pacific Business News 40 Under 40 award, and has served on the boards of University of Hawaii-CIBER (Center for International Business Education & Research), Hawaii Medical Service Association, Oahu Resource Conservation and Development Council, Hawaii Venture Capital Association, Oahu Workforce Investment Board, Waikiki Business Improvement District Association, and Fort Street Mall Business Improvement District Association.
