Covanta Energy
Covanta Energy is an internationally recognized owner and operator of Waste-to-Energy facilities. Waste-to-Energy (WTE) facilities convert municipal solid waste into renewable energy, a process recognized internationally as a greenhouse gas reduction technology. In Europe, one-third of compliance with the Kyoto Protocol is being met through solid waste management, which includes recycling and WTE.
Covanta operates HPOWER in Hawaii, which processes 2,160 tons of waste into 57 megawatts of energy daily. For every ton of MSW processed at HPOWER, one less barrel of imported oil is needed in Hawaii. HPOWER has saved hundreds of acres of landfill space and more than 10 million barrels of imported oil.
