Sustainable UH

Shanah Trevenna is the Coordinator of Sustainable UH, a campus student organization striving to establish the University of Hawaii (UH) System as a world leader in sustainability. As the previous director of the Sustainable Saunders initiative, she coordinated a dynamic interdisciplinary student team called the HUB (Help Us Bridge) to implement many no-to-low cost projects for water, waste and energy adding up to $150,000 in annual savings for Saunders Hall at UH Manoa. Her 'Sustainability 101' curriculum has been taught throughout the UH system. With a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Western Ontario in Canada and a Masters in Urban Planning from UHM, she merges a decade of experience working for corporations such as IBM and Philips as well as engineering firms in Hawaii, with a passion for grassroots community empowerment. She was honored with the UH Presidential "Making the Elephants Dance" award for finding creative ways for the University to be responsive to the community’s needs and Hawaii Business Magazine named her one of five that will shape the next fifty years for Hawaii. As a keynote speaker for conferences such as Harvard's Sustainability Institute, she shares UH's success with the nation and beyond. Shanah currently teaches a community internship course and is pursuing her Ph.D at UHM. She applies her love for surfing to her ocean wave energy prototype development in the Electrical Engineering Renewable Energy and
