Executive Director

Blue Planet Foundation

Jeff Mikulina is the executive director of the Blue Planet Foundation, a local organization whose mission is to end the use of fossil fuel on Earth, starting in Hawai'i. Jeff has worked as an environmental advocate for over a decade, helping to pass legislation that sets a binding cap on Hawaii's greenhouse gas emissions, places a tax on imported oil to fund clean energy, requires that all new homes use solar water heaters, requires returnable deposits on all beverage containers, provides incentives for renewable energy use, and increases the funding of natural resources through tourism taxes.

Jeff also served as Vice Chair of both the Honolulu Planning Commission and the Honolulu Charter Commission where he authored successful Charter amendments that require islandwide curbside recycling and creating a bike- and pedestrian-friendly Honolulu. In addition to his role with Blue Planet, Jeff is currently a district manager for Vice President Al Gore's Climate Project.

Jeff has been awarded an EPA Environmental Hero Award, selected as one of "40 Under 40" by Pacific Business News in 2010, chosen as one of "10 for Today" by Hawaii Business magazine in 2010, and ranked by the Honolulu Star-Bulletin among "10 Who Made a Difference" in 2005. Jeff has been quoted as a source thousands of times in Hawai'i, national, and international news outlets. He earned a Master's of Science degree in engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign studying decision theory.
