Defense Logistics Agency Energy

Mark Iden assumed his current duties as the Deputy Director Operations for the Defense Logistics Agency Energy in April 2007. In this assignment, he is responsible for all of the DLA Energy buying units managing acquisition programs that exceed over $12 billion in annual sales. In addition, he is engaged in the oversight and management of acquisition programs and the field-level execution for end-to-end Class III supply chain support of U.S. and coalition forces in Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.

Prior to this assignment, Iden served as DLA Energy’s Direct Delivery Fuels Director from June 2006 to April 2007 after graduating from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. He served as the Director of the DLA Energy Executive Agent Office from December 2004 until August 2005 after serving a four month detail to headquarters Defense Logistics Agency where he worked in the Supply Chain Integration and Management Office.

Iden served alternately as the Deputy Director and Director of DLA Energy's Bulk Fuels Commodity Business Unit from December 2000 until August 2004. Iden served as the Deputy Director of the Energy Enterprise Office from October 1998 to December 2000 within the newly named DLA Energy. From June 1996 until October 1998, he served as the Deputy Commander for the Defense Energy Region Europe located in Wiesbaden, Germany. From November 1997 until May 1998, he was on extended assignment to DLA Energy in support of the newly developing installation energy mission. Prior to his assignment in Germany, Iden served for 18 months as the Deputy Director of the DLA Energy Business Enterprise Office.

Iden began his career with DLA Energy in 1981 serving in a number of staff and field-level positions within the organization. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from the University of Maryland where he graduated in 1979. Iden served as a Chemist in the Directorate of Quality Assurance and Technical Services from 1981 until 1983 when he transferred to the Navy Petroleum Office. In 1984, he transferred to the Defense Fuel Region Europe located in Stuttgart, Germany, where he served as the Region’s Quality Manager until 1989. Iden returned to DLA Energy where he worked in the Quality Assurance and Technical Services Directorate until 1991 and in the newly established Alternative Fuels Directorate where he worked until 1994.

Iden is a recipient of the Defense Logistic Agency's Meritorious Civilian Service Award (1996) and the Defense Logistic Agency's Exceptional Civilian Service Award (1999). In addition, he was presented the Office of the Secretary of Defense Exceptional Civilian Service Award in 2001.
