Joelle Simonpietri is an analyst supporting the Pacific Command (PACOM) Innovation and Experimentation (J81) Energy team, where she focuses on long-range strategy development and innovation projects for the reduction and replacement of fossil energy.

Prior to joining PACOM J81 in October 2009, she operated her own independent consulting company focused on financing for renewable energy efforts. She had over a dozen clients developing energy solutions from solar, hydrogen, ocean, and other renewable energy types. She also was a partner at Kolohala Ventures, a Honolulu venture capital firm, where she syndicated angel and Series A investment rounds into renewable energy companies, and served for six months as interim CEO at Kuehnle Agrosystems, Inc, a biotech firm focused on algae applications for biofuels and specialty chemicals. Prior to moving back to Hawaii in 2007, Ms. Simonpietri worked with the $250 million corporate venture fund for Waste Management Inc, a Fortune 200 company, where she developed the company’s biofuel investment strategy and led its first development project.

She began her career with eight years of active duty as a naval officer serving at US Forces Korea, the Joint Intelligence Center Pacific, and the Pacific Command and currently is a Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserves. She holds a BS in Neurobiology from Duke University and an MBA in private equity and renewable energy from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth.
