Lt. Governor Duke Aiona was born in Honolulu in 1955 and has spent the majority of his life serving the people of Hawai‘i. After graduating from Saint Louis School, he went on to attend the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California, where, in 1977, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. After graduating from the University of Hawai'i School of Law in 1981, the Lt. Governor began his legal career with the City and County of Honolulu's Department of the Prosecuting Attorney. In 1990, Lt. Governor Aiona was appointed to the Hawai'i State Judiciary, where he first served as a Family Court judge. In 1993, he was elevated to the Criminal Division of the First Circuit Court. In 1996, he became the first Administrative Judge and primary architect of the highly successful and innovative Hawai'i Drug Court.

The Lt. Governor and his wife, Vivian, have been married since 1981, and have four children, Makana, 'Ohulani, Kuli'a, and Ka'imilani. He is also actively involved in his church and numerous community organizations.
