John C. Roots


John C. Roots joined CC&H as a partner in 1998. His professional experience includes energy, transportation, international affairs, arms control, and insurance. Before joining CC&H, Mr. Roots was Legislative Attorney for former U.S. Senator Ted Stevens (R-Alaska), who chaired the Senate Appropriations Committee and the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee., and chaired the Senate Commerce Committee. Mr. Roots’ responsibilities included overseeing arms control, NATO enlargement, insurance, crime, drug enforcement, transportation, and foreign policy issues. Prior to his work with Senator Stevens, Mr. Roots was a Vice President with ARCO Alaska, a subsidiary of Atlantic Richfield Company. His responsibilities included overseeing ARCO Alaska's representation with the Alaska legislature and state agencies. Prior to this he spent ten years in the Washington, DC office of ARCO representing this Fortune 500-energy company before Congress. His early career with ARCO focused on acquiring and managing oil and gas leases in the oil fields of Louisiana, Texas, California, and Alaska. From 1984 to 1992 he assisted the White House Advance Office. Mr. Roots is a retired Colonel in the Marine Corps Reserves, and an aviator who flew 220 helicopter combat missions in Vietnam and was awarded the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, and eleven Air Medals. Mr. Roots earned BBA (Finance) and JD degrees from Southern Methodist University. He sits on the boards of the Armed Services YMCA and Navy Mutual Aid Association. Both are non-profit organizations dedicated to enhancing the well-being of our U.S. military personnel and their families. He is a member of the District of Columbia Bar, State Bar of Texas, and Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States.
