Carbon Nanotubes Production Technology

Keywords: carbon nanotubes, thermal plasma

Researchers at McGill have developed a new process to produce single-walled and multi-walled carbon nanotubes using a DC non-transferred arc thermal plasma torch. A carbon-containing gas is used as the source material for CNT generation and the carbon precursors and catalyst material densities are introduced and controlled independently from the plasma operating parameters. The CNTs in this system can be generated either on surfaces within the reaction chamber or in the gas phase and collected on dedicated walls.
