Headquartered in Waltham, MA, Raytheon Company is an industry leader in defense and government electronics, space, information technology, technical services, and business aviation and special mission aircraft. Raytheon is installing a solar photovoltaic project on the roof of their facilities at 350 Lowell Street in Andover, MA. The system size will be 100 kWdc, and it will be mounted at an angle of 20 degrees. The project will be completed in late 2007 with system commissioning in early 2008. SunEdison will complete the design and installation of the system. Think Energy, Inc. assisted Raytheon with the initial project implementation through the Massachusetts Renewable Energy Purchasers program, an aggregated renewable energy buying group funded in part by the Massachusetts Renewable Energy Trust. The system will produce approximately 114,000 kWh of electricity in the first year. Raytheon will be the owner of the system and will use all of the power produced on-site. The project is being cost shared with the MA Technology Collaborative through a Large On-Site Renewables Initiative (LORI) program grant. The simple payback is expected to be approximately 5 years with the MTC grant, with an internal rate of return of 20%.
