Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab), located in the hills above the University of California’s Berkeley campus, is the oldest of the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Laboratories. The Lab is managed by the University of California with a staff of about 3,800 employees.

Berkeley Lab conducts unclassified research with key efforts in new energy systems and environmental solutions, nanoscience, biotechnology, quantitative biology, and integrated computing. It hosts four national user facilities available for industry and academic research, including the Molecular Foundry, and has available approximately 300 technologies for licensing or collaborative research, including 42 nanotechnologies and 65 clean techs
