Lawrence H. Dubois

Vice President, Physical Sciences Division, SRI International

Lawrence H. Dubois joined SRI International as Vice President of the Physical Sciences Division in February 2000. His responsibilities include developing R&D programs to provide valuable solutions to government and commercial clients and pursuing partnerships and alliances that leverage SRI’s capabilities and intellectual property. Under his direction, the Division pursues research on advanced materials, microfabrication, power sources, molecular and optical physics, catalysts, coatings and environmentally benign processing.

Dubois was with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) from 1995-2000, where he served as Director of the Defense Sciences Office. He was responsible for managing an annual R&D budget of more than $300 million and 25 technical program managers in the areas of advanced materials, energy and environmental technologies, unexploded ordnance detection, design and manufacturing technologies, biological warfare defense, and biomedical materials and technologies.

Prior to DARPA, he was a Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff and a Technical Manager at AT&T Bell Laboratories; a Research Assistant in the Materials and Molecular Research Division at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory; a Teaching Assistant at the University of California, Berkeley; and a Technical Assistant at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.Dubois has an SB in chemistry from MIT and a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley. He has published more than 125 papers in refereed journals and books and holds four U.S. patents. His awards and honors include the Office of the Secretary of Defense Award for Outstanding Achievement in 1998, and an IR100 Award for a spectroscopy development.
