Abstract:

A comparison is made between the rates and directions of innovation in the Bio Energy and Renewable Energy sectors. Measures of innovation include: intellectual property (IP) coverage, patent velocities and product densities throughout the value chain of energy production. Innovation (color heat) maps will indicate the current areas of active innovation and the associated market growth areas. A ranking of companies in each sector will be presented, based on IP, technology stage and financial factors. Companies utilizing an open innovation approach will be highlighted.
