According to Clean Edge research, global solar markets reached $11.2 billion in 2005, a 55 percent increase from the previous year. The total market value for on- and off-grid distributed generation was $515 million in 2006 and is expected to grow to more than $4.3 billion by 2010. Even as the renewable and distributed energy market has expanded, effective solutions for measuring and acting upon energy generator performance have proved elusive.
